Tough tourney draws for Seton Hall, RutgersPosted on March 9, 2015 by Jerry Carino Team Mascots There was never going to be an easy conference tournament road for Seton Hall or Rutgers, but New Jersey’s high-majors got particularly tough draws when the brackets were finalized over the weekend. In the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden, eighth-seeded Seton Hall (16-14, 6-12) opens against ninth-seeded Marquette (12-18, 4-14) Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Pirates will be favored after splitting with Marquette during the regular season, but the winner has to deal with red-hot top seed Villanova (29-2) in the quarterfinals Thursday at noon. All games will be televised by Fox Sports 1. After losing eight of its last 12 contests, Seton Hall needs to win two games to secure an NIT bid. As of now the Pirates seem to be in the field, but they are at the mercy of the other conference tournaments. In the Big Ten Tournament at the United Center in Chicago, 14th-seeded Rutgers (10-21, 2-16) opens against 11th-seeded Minnesota (17-14, 6-12) Wednesday at 7 p.m. eastern time on the Big Ten Network. Minnesota won their regular-season meeting at home 89-80 on Jan. 17. The winner faces sixth-seeded Ohio State (22-9) Thursday at approximately 9 p.m. on ESPN2. Rutgers has lost 14 straight games, two shy of the program record set in 1987-88.
