Karl-Anthony Towns (USA Today)
Once again, New Jersey has no college basketball team in the NCAA Tournament. However, a number players with Garden State ties will lace up the dancing shoes this week. Here is the list of 16 actives, including a handful of walk-ons, plus four inactives:
Karl-Anthony Towns, Kentucky (St Joseph-Metuchen): Freshman forward is an All-America candidate, averaging 9.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in just 20 minutes per game.
Lucky Jones, Robert Morris (St. Anthony): The senior forward, who has scored 1,600 collegiate points, averages 14.3 points and 6.0 rebounds.
Myles Davis, Xavier (Plainfield/St. Peter’s Prep): The sophomore guard averages 10.7 points and 2.2 assists while shooting 37 percent from 3-point range.
Steve Vasturia, Notre Dame (Medford/St. Joseph Prep, Pa.): Sophomore starts at guard and averages 9.7 points while shooting 41 percent from 3-point range.
Jared Nickens, Maryland (St. Patrick): The freshman wing, a Monmouth Junction native, is averaging 5.8 points and shooting 38 percent from 3-point range.
Kavon Stewart, Robert Morris (Hudson Catholic): The sophomore guard averages 6.3 points, 4.5 assists and 2.4 rebounds.
Shaq Thomas, Cincinnati (Paterson/Nia Prep): The junior forward averages 6.4 points and 2.9 rebounds in 22 minutes per game.
Jermaine Lawrence, Manhattan (Pope John XXIII): The sophomore forward, a Cincinnati transfer, averages 4.8 points in 13 minutes.
Matt Klinewski, Lafayette (Eastern): The freshman forward averages 3.2 points in 9.1 minutes.
Reggie Cameron, Georgetown (Hudson Catholic): The sophomore forward averages 1.2 points in spot duty off the bench.
Matt Farrell, Notre Dame (Point Pleasant Beach): Freshman guard has made cameos in 15 games off the bench.
Carlton Allen, Manhattan (Ewing/Life Center): The sophomore center averages 0.9 points in spot duty off the bench.
Eric Stafford, Lafayette (Pitman): The freshman guard has made cameos in 16 games.
Kevin Dunleavy, SMU (New Providence/Delbarton): Senior guard is a walk-on.
Jacob Susskind, Maryland (Golda Och): Senior guard is a walk-on.
Brian Long, Kentucky (River Dell): Senior guard is a walk-on.
Quadri Moore, Cincinnati (Linden): The freshmen forward was averaging 2.3 points before getting suspended in mid-February for academic reasons.
Desmond Hubert, North Carolina (New Egypt): The senior forward appeared in 21 games before suffering a torn ACL in mid-February.
Hallice Cooke, Iowa State (St. Anthony): The sophomore guard is sitting out after transferring from Oregon State.
Charles Cooke, Dayton (Trenton Catholic): The sophomore guard is sitting out after transferring from James Madison.
