VCU Posts A Classy ‘Thank You’ Tweet About Shaka Smart, Along With Press Release About His Departure
Dan Lyons
Shaka Smart had been connected to a number of top basketball jobs since taking VCU to the Final Four in 2011, but it took till last night for him to make a move, when he took the job at Texas. Smart helped make VCU one of the premiere mid-major programs in the country, and VCU posted a classy tweet thanking him for his time in Richmond.
From VCU’s release about the move:
“We will remember Shaka’s success on the court and with our student-athletes forever, but more importantly, he has helped to create a level of sustainable success on an elite level nationally,” Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin said, “I speak for our entire department in thanking him and his staff for everything they have done for our student-athletes and VCU. We wish him well in Austin.”
We’re incredibly excited to see what Smart can do with the talent at Texas.
